What a 4-island day usually involves

  • A full day. Expect a departure in the morning and a return in the late afternoon. The tour we list runs for about 8 hours, but check yours.
  • Several stops. Stops are usually a mix of swimming beaches, snorkelling spots and a lunch stop. Many operators also include a sea cave or lagoon, depending on route and tide.
  • Lunch and gear. Lunch is normally included, and snorkelling equipment is often provided. Confirm both, plus whether park fees are included.
  • Pickup. Most operators collect you from your hotel. Confirm this, particularly if you stay in the far south.

What to compare between operators

  • Boat type and group size. A longtail boat is slower and quieter, a speedboat is faster and often more crowded. Smaller groups are usually more pleasant.
  • Which islands and in what order. Routes vary. Ask which islands are on the itinerary and whether you reach the popular stops before the crowds do.
  • What is included. Compare lunch, drinks, snorkelling gear, life jackets, insurance and national park fees.
  • Recent reviews. Read reviews from the last few months. Boats, crews and routes change.

When to go

  • Dry season is best. Sea conditions are calmest from November to April. In the rains, trips can be cancelled or rerouted because of weather.
  • Some islands close. Koh Rok and Koh Ha close every year from 16 May to 14 October, so tours during those months use other destinations. See the closure page for details.
