Best Luxury Resorts in Koh Lanta

Pimalai, Layana and Twin Lotus compared by location and character, not by invented ratings.

Koh Lanta's high-end scene is small. It doesn't have the number of five-star resorts you would find in Phuket, but it does have a handful of well-established beachfront properties. Three names come up most often: Pimalai Resort & Spa, Layana Resort & Spa and Twin Lotus Resort and Spa.

They are on three different beaches, and the beach matters as much as the resort. Pimalai sits on Kantiang Bay in the far south, Layana is on Long Beach (Phra Ae), and Twin Lotus is listed on Klong Dao Beach. Where you stay decides how far you are from the piers, how quiet it is and how easy it is to walk to a restaurant outside the resort.

We don't publish star ratings or nightly rates here. They change constantly and belong on the booking partner's live page. What we can say independently is how the three differ in setting and who each tends to suit.

The three resorts side by side

Facts below come from each resort's own listing and standard travel sources. Confirm current details, opening dates and room types on the booking page.

We don't rank individual hotels on this page. Rates, availability and guest scores change daily and live on the booking partner's page, so the useful thing we can do independently is help you pick the right kind of place and the right part of the beach, then search live for your dates. Pimalai Resort & Spa

Kantiang Bay, the far south

A large beachfront resort set in tropical forest on Kantiang Bay, in the south of the island. It is the most secluded of the three, and the furthest from the ferry piers.

  • Kantiang Bay, far southern end of the island
  • Beachfront and forest setting
  • Longest road transfer of the three
  • Close to Mu Ko Lanta National Park

Best for: Honeymooners and travellers who want a resort stay over nightlife

Layana Resort & Spa

Long Beach (Phra Ae)

A resort on the palm-fringed Phra Ae (Long Beach), the island's main strip, so restaurants and bars are in reach if you want to leave the resort.

  • Long Beach, the island's busiest beach
  • Easy to reach restaurants and bars
  • Shorter transfer than Kantiang Bay
  • Central for day trips and the piers

Best for: Couples who want a resort with a lively beach within easy reach

Twin Lotus Resort and Spa

Klong Dao, adults only

An adults-only resort listed on Klong Dao Beach, closest of the three to the Saladan ferry pier. Its listing names a November to April operating season, so confirm dates before planning.

  • Klong Dao Beach, nearer the piers
  • Adults only (18 and over) per its listing
  • Listing states a November to April season
  • Pools, spa and on-site restaurants

Best for: Couples and adults who want a quiet stay with a short transfer

How to choose between them

  • Choose the beach first. Kantiang Bay is quiet and far away, Long Beach is central and lively, Klong Dao is calm and close to the pier. Decide which of those fits your trip before you compare rooms.
  • Think about transfers. Kantiang Bay is 45 minutes to an hour by road from Saladan pier. Klong Dao is much shorter. Factor that in on arrival and departure days.
  • Check the season. Koh Lanta's dry season runs from November to April. Upscale properties tend to stay open longer than small guesthouses, but some close or reduce operations in the rains, so check.
  • Check the rules. If you travel with children, note that adults-only properties do not accept them.

Are there other upscale options?

  • Kantiang Bay. Most of the island's top-end resorts sit in or near this bay, so it is the best place to look beyond the three names above.
  • Boutique stays. If a full resort is more than you need, boutique hotels on Klong Nin offer character at a lower price point. See our Klong Nin comparison.

Frequently asked questions

There isn't a single best. Pimalai suits a secluded southern-bay stay, Layana suits a stay on Long Beach with restaurants nearby, and Twin Lotus suits adults who want a quiet Klong Dao stay. Choose by beach and atmosphere, then compare current rates and reviews.

Explore Kantiang Bay

Its listing describes it as adults only, for guests 18 and over, and states an operating season of November to April. Confirm both on the booking page before you plan a family trip.

Book early for December to February, the driest and busiest weeks. Rates are typically lower in the wetter months, but check what is open.

Best time to visit Koh Lanta

Plan on a long day: the trip typically takes two to three hours door to door and may include a car ferry crossing. Kantiang Bay is the furthest part of the island from the piers, so a resort there adds time.
