Koh Lanta's high-end scene is small. It doesn't have the number of five-star resorts you would find in Phuket, but it does have a handful of well-established beachfront properties. Three names come up most often: Pimalai Resort & Spa, Layana Resort & Spa and Twin Lotus Resort and Spa.
They are on three different beaches, and the beach matters as much as the resort. Pimalai sits on Kantiang Bay in the far south, Layana is on Long Beach (Phra Ae), and Twin Lotus is listed on Klong Dao Beach. Where you stay decides how far you are from the piers, how quiet it is and how easy it is to walk to a restaurant outside the resort.

Kantiang Bay, the far south
A large beachfront resort set in tropical forest on Kantiang Bay, in the south of the island. It is the most secluded of the three, and the furthest from the ferry piers.
