Getting there and who it suits
Kantiang Bay is at the southern end of the west coast, a long, winding drive south of Klong Nin and the beaches at the island's tip. Allow forty minutes or more from Saladan by car: the road climbs over the hills and is best driven in daylight, especially in the rain.
The ride down costs more than from the northern beaches. In our September 2026 price survey a songthaew from Saladan to Kantiang Bay cost about 200 to 400 THB and a private taxi 300 to 800 THB depending on the operator. There are no metered taxis and no ride-hailing apps on the island, so agree the fare before you get in. A scooter (200 to 300 THB a day) is the most practical option for a stay here, because the restaurants of Klong Nin are a drive away; read the motorbike rental guide first, since the road over the hills is steep.
To reach the island itself, see getting to Koh Lanta: from Krabi allow 2 to 3 hours by shared minivan with the car ferry included, then the long drive south. Tell the operator you are staying at Kantiang, because it is the last drop-off on most routes.
Swim around mid to high tide; at low water the southern end exposes rock and a wider flat of sand. The bay is more sheltered than most of the west coast, but the swell of the monsoon months still reaches it. The southern rocks are the only place worth snorkelling from shore.
The bay suits couples, honeymooners and travellers looking for calm rather than choice. Klong Nin to the north is the closest beach with a wider spread of restaurants and hotels, and Long Beach is where the island's nightlife and shopping are concentrated.
November to April is the season to come: clear water, calm sea and everything open. From May to October, expect rain, rougher water and some businesses closed, though the bay keeps more of its restaurants open than the northern beaches.
The southern tip of the island is the obvious half-day from here. Bamboo Bay, the last beach before the park, is a short ride further south and free to visit; the national park at Laem Tanod beyond it charges 200 THB per foreign adult and 100 THB per child aged 3 to 14 (rates read in June 2026, see national park entrance fee).
