Bamboo Bay, Koh Lanta: A Small, Wild Cove in the South

Bamboo Bay is a small, wild cove close to the southern end of Koh Lanta, near Mu Ko Lanta National Park. There are no big resorts here, just a rocky, forested coastline, a few simple places to stay and eat, and a sense of remoteness that is hard to find elsewhere on the island. It rewards visitors who are happy with very little.

What to see and do at Bamboo Bay

• A quiet, undeveloped cove: small and secluded, with a mix of sand and rock. It is not a long, wide beach like Long Beach.
• Natural scenery: jungle-covered slopes meet the shoreline, with good views across the water on a clear day.
• A simple meal by the sea: a handful of small restaurants and bars, so do not expect a busy scene.
• A stop on a southern day: it combines naturally with Kantiang Bay and the national park at Laem Tanod.

Getting there and what to expect

Bamboo Bay is near the far south of Koh Lanta and reached by road via Kantiang. The road is hilly and can be poor in places, so ride carefully or take a taxi. Confirm access and road conditions locally, especially after rain.

Facilities are minimal: few shops and limited mobile signal. Bring cash, water and sun protection, and check that the place you plan to eat at is open.

Swimming conditions vary with the tide and weather, and the rainy season can bring rough seas and closures. Plan for the dry season.
